It may sound crazy or egotistical for me to compare myself to Senator Obama, but we actually have a lot in common. We were both born outside the United States, to mixed-race parents. We both moved around a lot when we were young. We both started our careers as community organizers. And we're both voting Democrat this year. Beyond all that we have in common personally, there are the issues that define this presidential race and his position on those issues. I'm voting for him (and for the Democrats) because I agree with what he has to say and he agrees with me. But maybe more importantly, I feel actual hope in this election - hope I haven't felt since I could first vote. My first presidential election was in 2000. What a slap in the face. If I hadn't already been a committed political person, it surely would have turned me off of voting for good. The fact that most of my adult life and my entire professional life have operated under the tyranny of the Bush administration does not make it any better. But I'm excited. Really excited. I've done my Democratic duty before more out a sense of obligation than anything else. Now I actively want to get out and help and I'm willing to put myself to work to make sure that those younger and older than me feel the same kind of hope I do. They need it. They deserve it. We can make it happen.

A New Project from the Young Democrats of America

With record-breaking turnout across the map, young people have made this the year of the Young Voter Revolution. What's now clear is that young people are a sizable and active voting bloc, and, even more, they are voting overwhelmingly for Democrats. Young Democrats of America (YDA) is launching the whYDA project to give voice to this movement. Young people are making themselves heard at the polls, and now they have a place to do so online, as well. We're asking a simple question: Why are you voting for Democrats? Users submit videos and written testimonials to the site to be shared with the world. It's an easy process with potentially dramatic effects: We are growing the Young Voter Revolution.

Our Goals

To bring together dedicated young people across the country.
To attract voters and members to engage in the political process.
To get young people learning about the Democratic agenda from each other.
To spread the Democratic values, agenda, and vision person-to-person.
To educate young voters about the scope of problems that affect the country.
To empower organizers with materials and information to motivate people in their communities.
