The War in Iraq

The War in Iraq has cost billions of dollars and many lives. It's time for it to end.

Young Americans, very aware of their generation's sacrifice, are ready for the Iraq War to end.

• Young Americans are honorably serving their nation and disproportionately sacrificing their lives in the Iraq War. Nearly 90 percent of military deaths were suffered by soldiers under 35 and nearly 80 percent of military deaths were under 30 years of age.

What are we up against?

• War spending has far surpassed early expectations, with some fearing that the war will cost well over 1 trillion dollars.
• The "surge" has not enabled Iraq's political leaders to reconcile as was the intended purpose.
• Recent military gains are not sustainable without Iraqi political solutions.
• The U.S. military is stretched thin by repeated and lengthy deployments, reducing its ability to respond to crises.

A vote for Democrats is a vote to end the war in Iraq

• Immediately begin redeploying American troops from Iraq in a strategic, responsible, and phased method.
• Use phased withdrawal as the best way to pressure the Iraqi government to reconcile, heal, and provide security to their people.
• Use U.S. diplomatic power to earn support from regional neighbors to secure Iraq's borders, isolate al Qaeda, and support Iraqi unity.
